Monochromatic Fun

I decided to use the color green for my monochromatic fun page.  Some of the papers are gelli plate prints that I made when teaching a demo at Samish Paint Out.  I found a green postcard and added a few scraps from my leftovers box.  The definition for monochromatic art was added to this page at the bottom.

The prompt this week was word clippings.  I clipped the words "Anything Goes" from a choir program page.  Then added things that could move or go.  Including travel vehicles and birds and engines.

Pockets and Pouches

My pockets were from some greeting cards I had made a long time ago.  I inserted tags in the pockets and used rub-ons to finish the page.

Repetition

The prompt this week was repetition.  I used a flower stencil on the background,  Stamped the tipsy image on tea bag papers which were glued to the page, then used gesso around the stamped images, ending with stamping the again several times.

Numbers

The prompt for this week was numbers.  I had several stamps with numbers so decided to use them.  Deli paper accepts stamped images really well, so I stamped on it and attached it to the page.  Also added a chipboard number 5, stickers and some decorative tapes.

Tags and Hidden Places

The hidden places cover some photos that are special to me.  The round silver tags is the inner seal from a can of nuts.  I embossed it and taped it over the photo.  The other hidden place is covered with a coffee cup holder.

Inky is as inky does

This page was created with inks.  I used Liquitex inks on the background, (red, yellow and blue), then added stamped images with pigment and dye inks..  Next I stamped a flower on some blue tissue and glued it to the page.  Stamped the sun on a torn recipe card.  The yellow ink was added to the sun and used to color in the white areas on the page.  Writing was a white poster pen.

Dear me, thank you!

I have always liked to teach others when I have something to share.  The photo is me teaching my family how to do the Macarena at a family get together.  We were going on a cruise with my mom and dad and they wanted to be ready to dance on the ship.  Sharing what I know always makes me happy.

Stamping

The topic this week is stamping.

I played with some stamps I found hidden away in a box. Lately I have started using tea bag papers again. We drink lots of tea around here. If you empty the tea bags and let them dry, they work wonderfully for stamping images, or just tearing and using for collage. They are much stronger then tissue paper, don't tear when gluing them to a page.

Story Spinner

I think this page looked better in the journal before photographing.

There was a lot of procrastination going on when I saw the topic for this week.   Writing is not one of my strong points so I just kept putting off getting started.  When I did do it, it was kind of fun.  But, you'll be waiting along time for the ending, I'm sorry to say.

Puffy Heart Journaling

I just realized I didn't do any journaling on this page, other than writing 'puffy hearts'.  The puffy hearts were made with Magenta chipboard hearts and liquid applique.  I used a red marker to color them.

Trims and Ribbons

This page was hard to photograph, my journal wouldn't open flat since I have so many pages in it and it's nearly full.  I added some paint for the background,  then stenciled on top.  The girl was a stencil from 'Dina Wakley's' collection.  I used the ribbons and trims for her dress.

Nostalgia

Our topic this week was Nostalgia.  I used images that reminded me of pasttimes.  The little girl, reminded me of the new dress with matching hat and coat that I used to get every year for Easter holidays.  The chair reminded me of a similar chair from a relatives house.  I used some old vintage wallpaper for the background (it even smells musty).

Sketching

The topic for this week is sketching.  I found the vase on the left at Value Village.  It is so cute.  I had the sunflowers and decided they would look good stuffed inside.  The other vases were used as decoration on my kitchen table.  I painted them with watercolor, it was not my best work.  The paper which I had gessoed and distressed didn't take the watercolor very well.

HEARTS

This week it's all about hearts.  When doing this page I found a website with love letters written by famous people.  I couldn't resist using them on my page, especially as you can tell, hearts make me think of love and love letters.

Stars, Stencils and Stitching

This page was created with the use of stencils, stitches and stars.  I first added paint to the page.  Next used a few stencils with Dylusions sprays.  For stars I used both pictures of celebrities and stamped stars.  Stitching is done at the bottom to join the fabric pieces together.

Crazy for Circles

This weeks topic is Crazy for Circles.  I used stencils for the background, (circles of course), then added collage items that were a circular shape to the page.  I copied a definition of what a circle is and also added a list.

Cheese Cloth

The topic for this week is cheese cloth.

I didn't have any cheese cloth so used gauze to make the flower on this page.  My first layer on the background was several different decorative paper scraps glued on to the page.  Next I added stenciling, some more embellishments and some doodling.

Labels, Labels and More Labels

This weeks topic was Labels.  I covered my background with labels, then stenciled the girls onto the page.  The labels gave some interesting designs to the clothing.

Try, Try Again

This weeks topic was try, try again.  I had fun putting this page together.  The girl is from a Teesha Moore collage sheet and the frog instruction, on how to catch a flying insect, was in my collection of collage scraps.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.

List of Me

This week's topic is 'List of  Me'.  I went to the monthly, used rubber, sale at Art and Soul and bought the stamp on the bottom right.  I nearly put it back, glad I didn't.  My writing on this page is all about me. The circles were stenciled, then I used several crayons to draw around them.  The wine glass is a rubber stamp.

Making Decisions

On this page I wrote some motivatonal quotes about making decisions.  I think the one that says it all is "Where there is no decision there is no life".  We are making decisions at the start of each day and all day.  Easy for a retired person.

Some of the materials used to embellish the page are the packing tape with games printed on it, girl from Teesha Moores collage sheets, a payout stub from a casino, more decorative tapes and fabric.

A Wonderful World

The topic this week is "A Wonderful World".  I dcided to tie this topic in with a workshop from "21 Secrets 2013".  The name of this workshop was "Doodling Our Way" by Cathy Bluteau.  This page reflects the things I love about our wonderful world.  The flowers, birds, colors, etc.

How to be miserable at Journaling

This post was about how to be miserable at journaling.  I don't think I could be unless there was nothing available to journal on or with.  This week I was troubled with a situation that occurred with some of my very closest friends.  I just couldn't seem to get past it until I got out my glue and paints and started working on this page.  Now I'm okay,

I used some deli paper on this page.  It was in my stash, a page that I had used to make a rubbing with circles, red circles.   I really like the look of the journaling inside the circles.

Divine Intervention

This weeks we were to use the prompt 'Divine Intervention'.  I couldn't think of anything in my life that would have been caused or changed by divine intervention, not sure I believe in it.  The best I could do was to find some definitions from different bloggers as to what it meant to them.

Last week I had taken a paper towel that was covered with acrylic paint and punched circles from it.  To punch the circles I used another piece of scrap paper under it otherwise the paper towel would have just torn.  I used the paper towel circles on this page for the background.

Gratitude LIst

The topic this week was "Gratitude List'.  I like this page.  I couldn't get everything I'm grateful for on this page but feel I did pretty good.  I found a way to use some of the embellishments in my stash such as the frame, tea bag wrapper and zentangled hand that I traded for at Artfest.

I love doing journal pages because I can do whatever I want to the page.  I enjoy trying new techniques knowing that I can cover everthing and start over if I want.

A Weekly To Do LIst

This weeks prompt is  'A Weekly To Do List'.

I started going through my collage stash and came upon this picture of a man caring for his flowers.  I thought this is something he probably does daily or weekly and decided I wanted to use this picture on my journal page.  I played around with stencils, acrylic paints, silk inks, gesso and pens for the background.

A Special Gift

This week's topic was A Special Gift.

I took a photo of a special gift from a sister and used that on my page.  I love this little ceramic figurine.  This was special because of the person who gave it to me.

Kindness Mission

This weeks topic is "Kindness Mission".

I feel that sharing my love of Art Journaling is a kindness to others.  Art of any kind is therapy to me.  It helps me to forget my worries, my fears and anything else that is disturbing or stressful in my life.  Sharing art with others gives me hope that it will help them relieve the stress in thier lives as well.

What I want to accomplish in 2013

Every winter I have the same problem.  I gain weight.  Living in Sun City Festival there are too many potlucks, parties, activities with snacks and lunches out.  These all equal up to 10 too many pounds.  The thing I want to accomplish is to get healthier, exercise more, eat healthier and lose the 10.

Your Side My Side

Definition of side is:
a position that is opposite to or contrasted with another.

I started this page with a stamp, designed by Pam Carriker, that I inked and stamped an odd number of times on the page.  Next I added the large circles with water soluable crayons.  I drew the circles, then took a wet brush and blended the colors.  Stenciling was added along with several new stamps that I had been wanting to try. (The stamps were from Teesha Moores online store).  The small circles were made with bubble wrap and acrylic paint.

Where I Want to Go in 2013

I love the photo of my Grandma's wedding.  She passed away at a very young age so I only know her through pictures and a few stories from my mom.  I included this photo on the page to represent family.  Other places besides spending more time with family are written in a list on my journal page.

Life is RED

I chose red as my Life is color.  The techniques used on this page were stamping, stenciling, and doodling.  I used spray ink, poster pens, markers and a black pen.
Red is the color of wine, flowers and rubies.

M is for MAP

For this page I used a map for the background.  I started out with a plan to try a technique by Julie
Fei-Fan Balzer.   This was a lesson I downloaded from Interweave on "paint over collage".  I didn't read the instructions completely, so this looks nothing like it's supposed to.  I sketched the bird from a bird book and then painted it with acrylics.

On the Dotted LIne

I used dotted tape for my dotted line.  The bird houses on the line are sitting on a wall in our back yard.  I had printed this photo out a few months ago and when I was going through my stash for this topic and I knew I had to use it.  I love birds and bird houses.
